For over 35 years the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation has worked to support, restore and maintain Oakland’s parks, sports fields, and recreation centers. The Foundation has a long history, serving as a non-profit sponsor for local community groups. Board members and other supporters are proud of the Foundation’s continued dedication to Oakland’s youth through its Barry Weiss Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund. In 2016 the Foundation provided almost 300 scholarships to kids from all across Oakland.
Our 14th annual A Taste of Spring fundraiser will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Oakland’s thriving downtown / uptown district. Funds raised will be used to support the youth scholarship program to help kids enroll in summer camps, swim lessons, art and dance classes, and many more programs offered by the Oakland Parks and Recreation department, as well as supporting such things as the Mosswood Recreation Center rebuilding effort.

Mission: Providing financial and volunteer resources, and advocacy for Recreation programs and Parks in Oakland.
The Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation is a registered non-profit that bridges the gap between the City of Oakland’s offices of Parks and Recreation and Public Works, helping to fund the public’s need for safe, clean and well-maintained parks and recreation centers. We have improved parks and recreation centers across the city by providing fiscal sponsorship, fundraising support, and technical assistance to community groups working to improve their neighborhood parks. The Foundation’s involvement varies by project, but each project relies on collaboration between community groups, private businesses, and government agencies. Every project the Foundation undertakes improves and expands Oakland’s parks and green spaces.
